Habesha Kemis

The habesha kemis is the traditional dress of Ethiopia and Eritrea — a flowing gown, classically in white handwoven cotton, finished with colourful tibeb embroidery along the hem, cuffs and neckline. It is worn for weddings, holidays like Meskel, Timket and Easter (Fasika), church, graduations and other special days.

On Brhan, independent Habesha sellers list their own kemis designs: traditional handwoven fetil cotton, lighter chiffon styles, modern cuts, and made-to-order pieces in the colours you choose. Each seller sets their own prices and ships directly to you, with Brhan Buyer Protection on every order.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find my habesha kemis size?

Check the size options and measurements on the product page first. Many kemis are made to order, so the seller can sew to your measurements — message the seller through Brhan with your bust, waist, hip and shoulder-to-hem length before ordering. Our habesha clothing guide explains how to take each measurement.

How long does delivery take?

Most sellers ship internationally and typical delivery is 7–21 working days, depending on where the seller ships from and your country. The estimated delivery time and cost for your region are shown on each product page before you buy.

Can I order a custom habesha kemis?

Yes. Many sellers on Brhan take custom orders — you can request specific tibeb colours, lengths and cuts. Open the product page and use the message button to ask the seller about a custom piece. Note that custom-made pieces cannot be returned for a change of mind.
